We’ve kind of got choked on chokers, haven’t we? Or at least, that’s what they’ve been telling us. While chokers have taken over the world before we’ve even realized they are happening, it seems they’re disappearing just as rapidly. After all, fashion is all about unexpected changes and twists, so are we really to hold grudge that they’re making us say farewell to our throats’ 2016 best friends?
As far as we’re concerned, everything that had to do with choker fashion was fabulous; still, we wouldn’t be a part of fashion industry if we didn’t have the guts to let go and move forward each time we’re presented with a new chance to exercise a fresh, dashing piece of, well, anything. Hence, let’s move onto bigger deals, please. Still, we’ll save a simple choker or two for later, just in case.
The latest obsession we’ll be gracing our necks with stretches beyond the beloved choker but holds onto the same excitement these neck pieces had brought along. Expect the new trend to be supporting a lot of glitter, crystal, feathers and lace, plenty of diamonds and chains (apparently, we’ve all gone S&M), interesting pendant shapes in a variety of colors and materials, and plenty of intricate embellishments. The pieces are all very opulent, with a sense of whimsical charm about them. It’s endearing, really.
And guess what? The (in)famous ear cuff is back! It’s exaggerated, delicate, restless, simple, rebellious and pretty fabulous. This extended jewelry focus may be the one reason we’ll be falling for the trend more than we have for chokers. After all, we’re now being given the opportunity to have other parts of our upper body and face look fantastic, not just the neck. Wouldn’t you agree that’s pretty wonderful?
The trend, then, stretches beyond the neck and earlobe, and graces other facial segments, like nose, lips or brows. Nonetheless, the new trend isn’t a simple piercing jewelry trend like those we’ve been spotting on runways back in 2015 and beyond; rather, the new jewelry is all about elegance and a very intimate sense of grace. While chokers we’ve been wearing so far had a little ‘90s nostalgia to them and a lot of rebellious street style edge, these new jewelry elements are focused on femininity of choice and a very refined, polished chic. It is safe to say that this new jewelry trend is the perfect combination of sophistication and revolt combined, and we’re kind of charmed.
For all of you who are (like us) devoted to neckpieces, fright not; designers haven’t given up on neck embellishments, at all. Even though they’ve shifted focus to the earlobe, they’ve still remained devoted to gracing clavicles, bare shoulders and of course, the thing that ties all of these together – the neck. What’s happened is that they’ve replaced the simple ‘90s choker with a more elegant variant, channeling rich neck pieces, similar to those Eastern and tribal embellishments, leading the necklaces into a dimension of power and statement. Long necklaces that start just under the collarbones and intricately woven go down to the breast area are the latest hit, and they’re varying from simple, modest necklaces with interesting pendants to intricate designs that are giving away a very lavish vibe. Naturally, there’s a lot of exaggeration, too – for those who like to risk with their jewelry pieces. The colors, materials and styles are plenty, and we’re pleased that there’s something for everyone.
Rings have also made the cut into the new trend, and we’re again looking into a ring layering in materials like gold and silver, with a lot of added colorful stones in various shapes and sizes. The new ring design is very smart, so much so that there isn’t a style we could make a sour face to. It’s lovable.
In essence, 2017 is bringing about something we may be a bit reluctant to accept but a trend we’ll definitely grow to adore by the end of February or even sooner. Find your style and don’t be afraid to experiment. We know we will!
