To turn your office into a gym, you do not really have to turn it into one – it already is a gym. You will not need to buy any machines or hire a professional trainer. All you need is the right advice and a little bit of imagination – or at least some ingenuity. If you are wondering why you should do anything at work beside work itself, of course, you have to realize that there are more than a dozen of reasons to do so. Exercising is truly important for your well-being and if your work consists of sitting throughout the whole day, your body will surely not be pleased. So, you should reward it with some physical activities in order to stay healthy. After all, you might be willing to work out, while your job is preventing you from doing so, because you do not have enough time. Therefore, you could easily kill two birds with one stone, if you follow the tips that are about to be mentioned below. If you, however, have enough time to regularly visit a gym, this way you could at least save a lot of time and spend evenings doing something else you enjoy.
If you plan on exercising in the office, you should know that almost every item in it can be used as exercising equipment, so start seeing them in that way as soon as possible. Naturally, there are some exercises which can be done without using any furniture. For example, toe-raising is an excellent exercise for your feet. You could do this either while sitting in a comfortable chair or simply by standing, but in both cases, your feet should be firmly on the ground. Taking the stairs instead of an elevator is great for your whole body, so the least you can do is avoid the lifts. Jogging in place has similar effects to climbing the stairs and you ought to do it occasionally. If you combine jogging and jumping, your body will be rather pleased. You could also use a rope, if regular jumping bores you. Staying in one place could become dull, though, so consider taking a walk every now and then, at least through the cubicles or the hallway. If you cannot afford to stand up because you have much work to do, even a simple rapid tapping with your feet, moving your shoulders up and down or raising your hands above your head could do the trick. Typing a lot is really tiring for your wrists and hands in general, so do stretch them once in a while.
Use objects
Let us talk about the possible uses of the items in your office. For instance, your desk can be used for calf raises – hold on to it so you can stay balanced and raise your feet of the ground. If you drink a lot of water, do not raise your bottle just when you want to hydrate, but instead, use it for working out – raise it every so often. Leaning your back against the wall and moving your feet away is called a wall sit, which is a phenomenal exercise. A chair can come in handy, too. Place your palms on it, bend your elbows and return them to the initial position, it will look like some sort of push-ups and your body will appreciate it.
These, of course, are not all the exercises you can perform in your office, but if you try to do at least half of them, there is no way you will stop doing them every single day, which would be enough for your body to feel pleased and, most importantly, you will learn to observe and will be able to make up some new workout strategies on your own.
