Fashion weeks come and go, and we cannot help but be awestruck with all the creations we have seen. Couture, designers as well as models have left us breathless, but another thing caught our eye too – street styles from all over the world. It seems as if ordinary men and women have taken it upon themselves to come up with inspiring outfits which have often made an even greater impression than the creations we have seen on runways. With several fashion weeks behind us, here are the trends that turned heads everywhere.
Milan
Milan was all about keeping warm – bomber jackets and oversized coats could be seen everywhere, but they were all so different and versatile that it made our breath stop. Those cosy, soft, oversized pieces that made girls look like they were wrapped in warm blankets stood side by side with edgy and fierce PVC ones, and both managed to look stunning. The colours vary too – classic elegance of gray gingham and red plaid, oversized black trench coats, and futuristic combos of florals and PVC took our breath away. It doesn’t matter if ladies choose to button up and use a belt to emphasize their waists, or they chose to wear the coats open and flaunt their outfits, a good coat was a must-have in the streets of Milan during fashion week.
New York
Ladies of New York sure know how to dress, and there’s nothing quite as fierce and edgy as well-dressed ladies and gents on their way to a fashion show. It seems as if New Yorkers are rediscovering animal prints, and there were leopard, zebra, tiger, and giraffe prints all over the place. Sometimes it was about being elegant and moderate and complementing your monochrome outfit with animal print accessories, but at other times you couldn’t help but admire ladies who decided to go over the top and combine leopard and zebra prints. Still, going out dressed head-to-toe in animal print isn’t very stylish, so you might want to combine the print with monochrome pieces, as it will make them stand out, but not be too much.
London
LFW-goers cannot help but reach for trench coats and jackets, as the notorious rain makes it impossible to leave home without something warm to throw over your lovely outfit. On the other hand, Londoners have mastered the art of layering and now they’re trying to add something to the cloudy and rainy atmosphere – a much needed dash of colour. It was red upon red upon red, red as far as the eye can see, and red head-to-toe, and still it wasn’t enough. Of course, not everyone can pull off an all-red outfit, but that’s why accessories are so important – statement shoes, huge bags, lovely scarves, and discreet shirts and tunics peeking from under bulky jackets.
Tokyo
People of Tokyo have always been known for their ability to take out trends from other countries (and continents) and adapt them in order to fit the culture better. This time, streets were full of people rocking platform boots – gothic, elegant, fluffy, and futuristic, platforms were everywhere. You could see the simple, black ones chosen to complement the outfit, but there were also furry and velvet ones that were bound to draw everyone’s attention.
Sometimes people fall in love with trends in an instant, but it’s important to remember that all great ideas and huge changes take bravery. You might not like all these street style trends, but we should all acknowledge the people who dare to express themselves so fearlessly and who stay true to themselves. Feel free to be inspired by these trends; reach out, pick the ones you like best, and don’t be afraid to twist and turn them until they become a part of you.
