Ah, Perth, in my opinion one of the most beautiful cities in Australia. And take it from this Chicago native, I would never have imagined myself living here, but know I can’t imagine living anywhere else on the planet.
After years of residing in this stunning city, I have come to consider myself a native and thus i feel confident providing you with some great advice to help you truly experience the marvel that is Perth.
Something for nature lovers
Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Perth
Visiting Australia and not taking the time to enjoy its stunning nature would be a shame. And Perth is the perfect example of what this continent has to offer. You can start by spending some time at the Kings Park and Botanic Garden, believe it or not you will have the opportunity to see over 200 plant species that are indigenous to Western Australia. We locals love to go there with our families, it is one of those location you can let your kids play and run around without worrying that something might happen to them. In addition, don’t be surprised if you encounter a lot of joggers during your visit as this is one of the favourite locations for runners in Perth.
Another must see for nature lovers is definitely the Aquarium of Western Australia. Where you can get up close and personal with australian marine life and even test your bravery by swimming with the sharks. And if you are not planning on using a car while in Perth, don’t worry, you can just take the Joondalup train to Warwick station and then transfer to bus 423. This is one attraction you definitely don’t want to miss.
That bustling nightlife
Perth by night
If I’m being honest this is one of the things that made me stay in this beautiful place. Perth is famous for its energetic nightlife and rightfully so. Now, you could go on TripAdvisor and look up some great locations, or you could take the word of a local and go straight to Mechanics Institute Bar on William Street, they have a gorgeous garden and one of the best beer selections. The food is limited to standard pub dishes but the atmosphere is why you are guaranteed to stay. Full of energy and laughs, it is a true representation of Perth’s hospitality.
If it is fine dining you are seeking you should definitely consider the Everest Inn on South Methven Street. They offer a great selection of Indian and Nepalese food that is cooked to utmost perfection. You are guaranteed to love the taste and the portions are not that bad. The price to quality ratio is sure to be pleasing for your wallet.
Day time fun
Rent a bike and get lost in this remarkable city
If you are a beach lover don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the Cottesloe Beach. It is definitely a favourite among the locals. Mostly due to its high level of safety. This gorgeous beach is located halfway between Perth and Fremantle. You can catch a public bus from Perth’s Elizabeth Quay Bus Station or opt for a train from Perth Station to Cottesloe Station as they run every 15 minutes. By train it would take you about 20 minutes on the Fremantle Line. When you get there you can sit back enjoy the beautiful beach, sip a cocktail or two or take a swim in the clear blue water.
On the other hand if you are more of an art aficionado, you could spend a day exploring some of Perth’s numerous exhibits. Starting with Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and all the way to the Art Gallery of Western Australia which I personally frequent a lot.
Now, if you have the chance i would definitely recommend renting a bike, at least for a day and getting lost in this remarkable city. Try it, you might discover locations and areas that no map or guide will ever tell you about. I have been living here for years and this city still manages to surprise me every time a go walking about. So leave your worries behind and let the city of Perth spoil you with its numerous sights and marvels.
