When it comes to medicine and beauty, Eastern cultures have always been considered superior in their experience and knowledge. What everyone can notice the moment they lay eyes on Korean women, is that they all have impeccable skin. What do you expect from nation whose earliest writing on skin care date way back to 700 BCE? Nevertheless, when women actually find out what Korean skin care routine includes, they back off a bit; it is not easy to take skin care to the next level. But if you want porcelain-like skin, this should not be a problem.
It’s a long process
Korean skin care usually has ten steps, and this means that it is not something you can do quickly. Prepare to spend some time in front of a mirror, prepare a comfy chair, and good light. Be thorough but gentle with your cleansing process, take time to let your skin absorb different serums and toners, and massage your face afterwards to keep the blood flowing. Having to do all this will probably mean that you will get nervous in the middle of the process and have a desire to get it over with as soon as possible, but stay calm and finish slowly. Learning to enjoy your own pampering is a process that is going to give you joy later on.
Thorough and gentle cleansing
To cleanse, you have to prepare your skin first: take the gentlest makeup remover (oil based) and remove all oil-based impurities from your face such as makeup and soot that gets on your skin during the day. Next take foam cleanser and remove all water-based impurities such as sweat and dirt as well. Exfoliate your skin but be gentle, since you have cleansed before. By removing dead skin cells you will ensure that your skin absorbs all nutrients later on.
Regenerate
Restore natural pH value of your skin by using toner which will moisturize and soften your skin after exfoliation. Use essence for skin detox and to speed up recovery process of tired skin. After that, use one or more serums; they target specific issues, so if you have more than one concern, you should use several serums. Give your skin some time to absorb each and every one, and put on a natural mask. You don’t have to do it every day, but at least once a week is recommended. Skin around your eyes is gentle and thinner that the rest of skin on your face, so use different cream for that particular area.
Night and day protection
When you have been through all this in the evening, give your face a nice, gentle massage which will help with the absorption of all those crèmes and serums. Right before you go to bed put on some night cream or a sleeping mask which will feed your skin overnight. And the following morning, right before you go outside to do your errands, simply put on some sunscreen. Korean women n the past have always made sure to keep their skin away from sun, and that is one of the reasons they have skin as beautiful as porcelain.
Find the right products
You will hear different people recommending different products and they will all claim that theirs is the right one for you. Until you try several products and experiment a bit, you will never know just how your skin will react to them. Do, however, make sure you use as many natural and organic products as possible, since those are the closest to the products that have been used for centuries by Korean women.
Skin care routine is something that Korean women see as something enjoyable and pleasant. They do not go to the bathroom thinking about their “10 step regime”, but have a wish to keep one of their most beautiful assets intact. They like the fact that it lasts long, and they cherish it, and this is something Western women should accept.
