It’s another hot summer ahead of us, and while we wait for Sun to become favourable for upcoming summer adventures, we should plan ahead our vacation. Perhaps this is a year when you should put some moves on, instead of same boring sunbathing on the beach. Yes, don’t rush into the fire – you can still go to the beach for the holiday after some wild time spent somewhere else. Music festivals in Europe are a perfect choice if you are music lover, you like to travel, and you are young, energized, and adventurous (or at least you feel that way). Here are few places where you can have some fun and experience lifetime adventure which you haven’t heard before.
Simple German word for Danube Island Festival, Donauinselfest is the biggest open-air festival in Europe, with nearly 3 million people visiting over the past few years. This is one of the earlier festivals, taking place in June, which gives you the perfect opportunity to proceed with your holiday afterwards. All kinds of music can be heard on 21 ‘islands’ and you are encouraged to explore them all.
Who would have ever thought that a small town with population of only 2000 people turns into a wild house with over 70,000 people crowding to hear some of the world’s greatest metal and rock’n’roll bands? Well, it’s true, and just when July turns into August you will be able to see dozens of thousands of people (usually dressed in black) having fun and enjoying the music. The festival started way back in 1990 – what a history!
The very name of the festival is a strong enough association to describe the feeling that remains after you’ve gotten there. People who love DJ-ing and electronic music will experience something they have never even dreamed before. This festival is created to be one of a kind in the world when it comes to audio and visual stimulus. It takes place south of Antwerp, in the town of Boom. 2005 was the first year of the festival, but afterwards it grew and developed until it was considered to be the best electronic music festival in the world.
This festival is a bit different, and this is because it has such good organization (French manners, mind you). Unlike similar festivals where you have to watch out for wild boys looking for a nice spot which they will use as a toilet, revelers in Paris line up patiently until a staff member directs them to their own camping place, marked in white paint. You can explore the ruins of old castles as you are waiting for bands to come up on stage, and to keep it as French as possible – coffee and croissants for breakfast.
One of the best ways to finish with your summer vacation is to visit a wild festival, is it not? At the end of August, Green Man takes place in Whales, and the mystical landscape of Wales is the perfect setting for various stages, 24-hour cinemas, science gardens and massage tents all over! Of course, there are gallons of great Welsh beer and cider and you will catch yourself enjoying the weather and the atmosphere so much that you will wish to stay a bit longer.
With so many great festivals, it is no wonder people save all their money and energy for the summer. Gather your friends, pack your backpacks, buy tickets and go on an adventure! The best memories are made this way.
