Celebrities are under constant pressure to be perfect: perfect actors and singers, with perfect bodies, skin, and hair, perfect marriages, and perfect families. People often forget that celebrities are ordinary people as well, and that they all have ups and downs. Parenting is never easy, anyone can tell you that, and we are all struggling to give our children everything they want and need, and celebrity moms are no different. Here is how they are handling ‘the real life’.
Sleep Deprivation Is Real
You would think that celebrity moms always have a dozen people running around, doing everything so they can enjoy being a mother? Do you think children of famous moms always sleep well, never get sick, and always behave nicely? Think again! Olivia Wilde posted a photo on her Instagram account for everyone to see the mess of her hair and as a description she put just a couple of ‘joys’ of parenting: diaper rash cream, snot, sweat, and panic. When you see someone so famous so openly talk about everyday parenting problems, you feel a bit better knowing that you’re not the only one going through those same things.
They Don’t Have All The Answers
You would think that because they are famous and rich that celebrities know everything about everything (or at least know someone who does). However, that is not the case, and last year, Hillary Duff spoke openly to US Weekly about how difficult it can be to take care of your own baby: “You feel, as their mom, that you should be able to have all the answers and be able to take care of them so easily. But, babies don’t come with a manual and you don’t always know what’s going on”. We cannot help but agree with her, especially if you’re a first time mom and you feel exhausted all the time.
Attachment Parenting
As controversial as it is, attachment parenting is present among celebrity moms, and the most famous advocate of this method is Mayim Bialik, the star of TV show The Big Bang Theory. Attachment parenting recommends co-sleeping with children and breastfeeding them until they decide to stop. While some psychologists state that this method is not recommended because children may disrespect authority and co-dependency between children and parents can occur, Mayim Bialik is more than happy with the way her children are growing, and she even wrote the book about her parenting experience.
‘Cheating’ Your Way
Parents should be strict and teach their children discipline and obedience, but how often did you give your children snacks before lunch just so that you could have a few quiet moments. Kate Hudson is known for posting photos and videos of her family on Instagram, and people all over the world could witness her goofing around the airport because her son was bored. Also, there was the time when she allowed her children to watch cartoons during breakfast for a peaceful morning.
No Stereotypes
It is speculated for a long time that Shiloh Jolie-Pit is transgender because she rarely wore dresses and instead chose tuxes like her brothers. Jaden Smith, on the other hand, wore skirts and dresses on more than one occasion. What do Brad and Angelina and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have to say about their children’s experimenting? They support them 100%! While someone might hesitate to allow their children to step out of the boundaries set by their gender, celebrity moms are always there for their children.
Whenever you’re having a bad day, remember that celebrity moms are going through much more: they have to appear perfect while still struggling to be good parents and handle their careers. Their honest Instagram posts are great way to show everyone that they are ordinary people with real problems, like you or me.
