Planning a vacation or simply getting your things in order for the swimsuit season is as exciting as it is taxing. That’s exactly why we’re here today; to ensure your beach goddess steps onto the scene in full shine. For you to be able to be the reigning glam queen of every and any beach, there are certain preparatory measures to take, things to check off your list, and if you have a tendency to skip a step or two, we’re here to make sure you have your affairs in order, so let’s start from the top.
Prep and Prime
The general rule of thumb is – you have a body, take it to the beach. However, if you have certain insecurities it’s best to tend to them before showing skin. Pamper yourself with a cellulite removal treatment if that particular ‘flaw’ causes you to feel self-conscious. If you’re completely comfortable in your skin (as you should be), the only must is hair removal. When it comes to beach glam hair will just not do, so pick your ‘weapon’ of choice, whether it’s laser hair removal or a last minute wax, but get it done and get them beach-ready silky smooth skin.
Perhaps there’s no need to even bring this up, but the one thing your makeup bag simply must contain is sunblock with high SPF. Don’t settle for anything less than SPF 30; after all, you want to be a beach goddess, not beef Carpaccio, so be safe and take precautions. Other items that should be gracing your makeup bag are body lotion (for after fun in the sun). Now, for additional glam one of the best things you can do for your hair is pack a non-crunchy wave maker. One of the absolute best ones is the Travel Wave Spray by OUAI. Just spritz a bit of this baby on those wind-dried strands and hit the beach bar. It will give you a wonderful volume boost and none of the stickiness. Now, if you’re the gal who takes her beach glam seriously, you’ll probably want some color on your lips and some volume on the lashes. The key here is to go for water and smear-proof products because there’s nothing glam about looking like a smudgy sea monster.
Time to shine
Ok, the time has come to talk about your must-haves in the attire and accessories department. To attain that elusive look that is both insanely sexy and utterly sophisticated you will need to go back in time. Thanks to numerous vintage shops as well as shops that specialize in new but vintage-looking attire, it has never been easier to put it together. This look, of course, revolves around a one-piece suit. It can be stripy, burnt orange, or graced by the ever-feminine polka dots. A turban is a must-have companion of this look, along with some heart-shaped glasses and a pair of platform sandals with a satin ankle strap. This look is the epitome of retro-glam, but if your tastes are a tad more contemporary and bohemian, the first item of order is definitely the white crochet bikini. Of course, this look would not be complete without a colorful floor-length kimono, a garment so glamorous and capable of elevating every outfit that it has stepped outside the beach and has become the ultimate street style staple.
The perk of the boho look is that it allows for an abundance of accessories so everything from wooden or silver and gold ankle and wrist bracelets are fair game, and the policy is – the more the better. A simple woven tote in a nude hue with nude flats to match will bring a bit of earthiness to the look and complement it perfectly.
